Drone Pilot Career Pathway Journey Progression |

Courses

Course Structure

Remote Pilot Professional Certificate (RPPC)

The Remote Pilot Professional Certificate is the foundational training programme for individuals who want to operate drones commercially. This course provides the essential aviation knowledge and practical skills required to obtain a professional drone pilot license and safely operate unmanned aircraft systems.

The training programme includes both theoretical instruction and practical flight training.

Course Structure

• Five days of aviation theory lectures delivered online or in classroom
• Two days of restricted radiotelephony communication training
• Five theory examinations covering aviation subjects
• Five to ten practical flight training sessions
• Final practical flight skills evaluation

Core Subjects Covered

• Air Law and Aviation Regulations
• Human Factors in Aviation
• Meteorology and Weather Interpretation
• Principles of Flight for Multi-Rotor Aircraft
• Navigation and Mission Planning
• Aircraft Technical Knowledge

Students completing the programme are prepared to obtain their professional drone pilot certification and begin operating in commercial sectors such as mapping, inspections, media production, agriculture, and security operations.

The Restricted Radiotelephony Course focuses on aviation communication procedures used when operating drones in controlled or shared airspace.

Drone pilots must understand radio communication protocols to safely coordinate with other aircraft and aviation authorities.

This programme provides a comprehensive understanding of radio phraseology and communication procedures used in aviation.

Course Highlights

• Aviation radio communication principles
• Airspace communication procedures
• Radio phraseology and terminology
• Practical communication scenarios and exercises
• Preparation for the radiotelephony theory and oral examination

Course Duration

2 Days of intensive communication training.

This course is also included as part of the Remote Pilot Professional Certificate programme.

The BVLOS Specialist Programme prepares drone pilots to operate aircraft beyond the pilot’s direct line of sight. These operations are critical for large-scale aerial missions such as pipeline inspections, agricultural monitoring, infrastructure surveys, and long-distance drone delivery.

BVLOS training is considered an advanced certification and is designed for qualified drone pilots who want to expand their operational capabilities.

Course Structure

• Three days of advanced theory lectures
• One written examination
• Five to ten simulator-based flight sessions
• Final operational skills test with an examiner

Through this training, pilots learn advanced operational planning, risk management, and airspace coordination for extended-range drone missions.

Fixed-wing drones are used for long-range missions and high-endurance aerial operations, particularly in mapping, surveillance, environmental monitoring, and large-scale land surveys.

This course provides the knowledge and practical experience required to operate fixed-wing unmanned aircraft systems.

Course Structure

• Fixed-wing theory lecture
• Fixed-wing theory examination
• Five to ten practical flight training sessions
• Final practical skills test with a qualified examiner

Pilots completing this course gain the skills required to operate advanced UAV platforms capable of long-distance aerial missions and large-area mapping.

The Drone Instructor Programme is designed for experienced drone pilots who want to become certified trainers within the unmanned aviation industry.

Graduates of this programme can train and mentor future drone pilots while supporting aviation training institutions and drone academies.

Course Components

• Two days of instructor theory training
• Train-the-trainer methodology
• Aviation briefing techniques
• Practical instruction sessions
• Student mentoring and evaluation training
• Final instructor competency assessment

This programme prepares instructors to deliver professional drone training programmes and support the growth of the drone aviation workforce.
